Closing down

I've decided to temporarily close this blog coz its hard to maintain 2 blogs. I also noticed that my other blog site has more hits than this. I guess there are more moms and dads reading the other one? hmmm.... whatever. Its the same anyway. Finding time and inspiration to blog now a days with the new job is also getting tough.

So to any readers over here, for further updates and blogs, please redirect yourself to busyhands-busyfeet.

Over and out.

Captured by Aliens and Returned to Earth

I just decided to pick up and read an old newspaper from a stack that is waiting to be sold to the Garang Guni man. Something must have happened to me because i'm really out of touch with what's going on in the world. I've not been reading newspapers.... for a very long time. Neither have I watched the news. Wow, great! Talk about needing to have a global mindset. I don't even know what's happening.

In the back dated newspaper i just found out that the British Prime Minister is no longer Tony Blair. Hey! Since when? Its now a Gordon Brown. And Pavarotti died! Not that I'm a opera fan, ...but he died! Apparently super sweet (look and taste) mini cupcakes are the in-thing now (apart from donuts, but this i know coz of the long queues at one particular shop near office), Neil Humphreys has ended his weekend column, and am still trying to catch up what was announced during National Day rally speech (CPF changes? What retirement age? What about being wrinkled, bent and shuffle shuffle... still gotta work? What? huh?) Gosh! Things just hit you with a BANG.

I must have either had an encounter with The Hatian, been frozen in time and just got defrosted (the air con at night must have been adjusted too low), captured by Aliens for a while to be studied, had a brain swop with Paris Hilton, or just not reading newspapers and watching the news. hmmm... which one i wonder.... so many possible permutations.

The Emperor's Club

I'm backblogging about a show i saw on channel 5 on the eve of Teacher's Day called The Emperor's Club. It isn't a particularly good show. its so so, decent enuf when there's nothing else to watch on TV.

It was a story about a teacher (played by Kevin Kline) in an all boys catholic school. He taught ancient western civilization history of the times of Plato, Julius Caesar and the Roman empire, etc. There were cameo roles by Doc McDreamy of Grey's Anatomy, and Bree's dead Doc husband from 1st season. They only came in at the end of the show playing the role of Mr Hundert's (the teacher) students grown up. I guess that's when they weren't so famous yet.

Anyway, it was about this particular class of his where all the students were quite ok boys. Then came a defiant, spoilt brat who was a congressman's son. Created trouble and had a -ve effect on the others. Usual teacher story stuff where Mr Hundert patiently nurtured the brat and seemingly turned him around. Grades got better to the extent that he came in top 3 in a history quiz, where the top 3 will pit their history knowledge in a quiz in front of the whole school to become the ultimate winner - Mr Julius Caesar. (it was a coveted title for the boys, but i tot Mr Julius Caesar really sounds nerdy for boys to want to covet it)

To cut the story short.. he cheated and didn't win. Hundert changed the qns when he suspected, but didn't expose Brat coz he didn't believe in shaming the boy. Hundert was extremely disappointed. The brat never became good, graduated, coz of father's influence, got into Yale. Fast forward years later when the boys have grown up. Brat is now the chairman of his father's global company. Invites all his ex-classmates and Hundert to his villa, requesting for a re-match of Mr Julius Caesar. They all came, he seems like he's a better person now and a loving husband and father. Hundert is proud of them all. Re-match and again discovers that Brat is cheating. Hundert changes the qns again and past winner wins again. Brat then makes announcement that he wants to run for congress just like his father, asks ex-classmates to support him. Everyone can't see him for who he really is except Hundert. But the latter is too much of a gentleman to expose him publicly (i thot that was stupid)

Hundert meets Brat in toilet, deeply disappointed and made a fool of, asks why. Brat says that history and all the stuff that Hundert is trying to teach doesn't matter. As long as you get what you want no matter how its done. He will continue to cheat and lie. (i tot that for that scene, the teacher looked like such a weak pathetic old man. If it was a chinese drama serial, he would have given him a tight slap). It ends off with the Brat being interviewed in one room on his quest for congress. While in Hundert's room, the other ex-students honour Hundert with a momento.

The intent was to show that even if he couldn't change that one Brat, he still made an impact in the many other lives. But i didn't have that feel-good feeling after watching the show. (but then again these teacher-feel-good shows are usually the same) i felt that there were so many people like the Brat in real life. Putting up a front and letting pp like bosses, the public think that they are worthy/ smart/ honourable, but actually its a front... and they get away with it (maybe a few might know). Where's the revenge, vindication, justification? Shouldn't the bad people lose and be ashamed (or turn good) and the good guys win in the end? (That's Star Wars u know.... no wonder i like Star Wars).

I guess the show depicted what real life is like. the Brat didn't turn good. (not like those channel 8 teacher ah yo yo shows). Many times, the good guys don't win. But life goes on and we have a choice.

I knew it....

Your Brain is 40% Female, 60% Male

You have a total boy brain
Logical and detailed, you tend to look at the facts
And while your emotions do sway you sometimes...
You never like to get feelings too involved

Wow, I'm quite the bitch

You Are 61% Bitchy

While you may not think of yourself as the ice queen, admit it, you're often in a bad mood.
And it's those around you who often bear the brunt of your annoyance, even if they haven't done anything wrong!

What was I thinking!!??

Have to take public transport a bit now coz Darl has RT. Think I'm getting a bit spoilt coz being driven around too much. Had to take public transport again today and the walk from the bus stop to home takes about 8-10mins. Today, i got a slight stitch just from the short walk from bus stop to home... but i was walking fast.

Then i was thinking, how to run Marathon??!!??!!! By the way, me and Darl signed up for the 10km Stan Chart run. That was the shortest distance already, unless we sign up for the Kid's fun race. But i'm thinking, short walk, got stitch. 2.4km already struggling. 10km...??? i'd be vomiting my guts out!!! WHAT WAS I THINKING????!!!!! Talk about impulse buying. I'm starting to have doubts I'll even be there. End of the day no harm done, i did charity and got a nice singlet. But no pride lar.

Said i would train, but work is so super busy now, hard to find the time to go gym. Have not gone for 1 whole month. *groan. Must go tomorrow. Its all in the mind.
